In the 1940's-1960's the LGBT community was persecuted. They should not engage in gay behavior in public - holding hands, kissing or dancing with someone of the same sex. They created alternative ways to share their identity - ear rings, hanky code, and more. This peaked in 1969 at the Stonewall Inn when police raided the bar and as lore has it Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera resisted arrest. Two transgender women of color.

We are 51 years from the riots that started Pride but our community does not have anymore safety than we had before because until we all belong we are not done. The murders of Tracy Single, Tony McDade, Nina Pop in our community and the murders George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Dominique Clayton and more. If riots started pride and we threw bottles and bricks we cannot dictate how others riot. Finding a way to support, educate and affirm our bothers and sisters should be our focus.

Hearing from the community that Black people are tired of being asked what we can do when we should should know how to be inclusive. For this conversation we are going to talk about how to follow the Salesforce Office of Equality framework for being an Equality Ally:

Listen with empathy and seek to understand different perspectives

Show Up by being present, engaged and committed

Speak Up as an advocate and evangelize your allyship among others
