Collecting requirements is more of an art than science as there is no magic formula on how best to collect. It depends on several factors such as the stakeholders, available documentation and the person who's collecting them. It requires going into requirements workshops with an open mind and open ears from those eliciting requirements and those giving those requirements. Often times, requirements are harder to collect because key stakeholders are already aware of the technology selected and solution alongside the business analyst and architect.
