About this event

Join us for an enlightening session on how to enhance your Salesforce org with conversational AI without extensive coding effort. In this meetup, we'll demonstrate how to connect AI services to your Screen Flows using Salesforce External Services. You'll understand the steps to establish secure connections, map inputs and outputs, and showcase AI-driven responses in your flows. We will also discuss when using Apex may be more suitable for complex requirements. This event is perfect for admins, developers, or architects looking to elevate user experiences with minimal coding. Secure your spot today and take the first step towards revolutionizing your Salesforce with AI!

This functionality does not require any additional purchase from Salesforce, but does require an API key* from a provider (i.e. OpenAI, xAI, etc), which requires billing and payment methods to be setup.

Remember, our regular meeting cadence:

  • odd months (Jan, Mar, etc): virtual lunch and learn on the last Friday of the month

  • even months (Feb, Jun, etc): in-person social on the last Thursday of the month.

*OpenAI API Key Setup

To get an OpenAI API key, you’ll need to access their developer platform and generate a key through your account. Here’s the rundown:

  1. Go to the OpenAI Platform: Visit platform.openai.com.

  2. Sign Up or Log In: If you don’t have an account, click “Sign Up” and create one with your email or a Google/Microsoft account. If you do, just log in.

  3. Access the API Keys Section: Once logged in, look for your profile icon or name in the top-right corner. Click it, then select “View API Keys” or “API Keys” from the dropdown.

  4. Create a New Key: You’ll see an option like “Create new secret key.” Click it, give the key a name (optional), and hit create. Copy the key immediately—it won’t show again.

  5. Add Billing (if needed): New users often get a small free credit (e.g., $5), but after it’s used up, you’ll need to add a payment method under “Billing” to keep using the API.

That’s it. You’ll use this key in your app or script to authenticate requests to OpenAI’s API.

*xAI API Key Setup

xAI’s process is designed to be simpler and more developer-friendly, with compatibility for OpenAI’s SDK. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Go to the xAI Website: Head to x.ai.

  2. Sign Up or Log In: Click “Try now” or a similar button to sign up with your email and password. Verify your email if prompted. Log in if you already have an account.

  3. Access the Dashboard: After logging in, you’ll land on the xAI dashboard.

  4. Generate an API Key: Look for an “API” or “API Keys” section—xAI makes this pretty obvious. With one click (e.g., “Generate API Key”), you’ll get your key. Copy it for use.

  5. Check Billing (if required): xAI’s beta phase (running through 2024) might still apply, but typically, you’d set up payment in the dashboard under a “Billing” or “Account” section if credits are needed post-beta.

xAI’s API is built to work with OpenAI’s tools—just swap the base URL to api.x.ai in your code.
