In case you have never used Custom Metadata Types, this user group meeting will be a great overview of how you can take advantage of them as an administrator.  If you have any sort of custom setting you might want to change or custom records you want to keep, but don't want them shown to end users, you can use Custom Metadata Types.  As a bonus they deploy much easier between environments than records.  See the link below to learn more, or come to the meeting!
