Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, our mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 1,500 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.
Join us by volunteering your time to help lay the wreaths at the 18,000+ headstones at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
Here is a link to the official page for Wreaths Across America at Jacksonville National Cemetery, which include all the details, including the full schedule: http://www.wreathsacrossamericajacksonville.com/
There are a couple different opportunities to volunteer your time, or just attend, if that is all you have time to do on this day. I will provide an option to indicate when to expect you on the RSVP Form.
Option 1: If you are interested in attending the ceremony then helping to lay the wreaths on the headstones, then please be at the parking area by 10:30am.
Option 2: If you are interested in helping to unload the wreaths after the trucks arrive with them, then please be at the parking area by 8:00. I (Marc Lester) have participated in this event for the past several years, and I will mention that the arrival of the trucks is a pretty impressive site, as they are escorted by a couple hundred motorcycles.
Everyone attending/volunteering are required to park at the Anheuser-Busch Turf Plant located at 16163 Lem Turner Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218. There will be shuttles running back and forth throughout the entire event day starting at 8:00am. The only exception is for handicapped persons, which are allowed to park directly at the cemetery.
I have also created a GroupMe group to coordinate logistics for this event, as the cemetery is large and broken up by sections, and I will not know in which section we will be needed until I get there the morning of the event. http://bit.ly/2Y12oKk
I hope everyone can join us for this volunteer opportunity.
Your Group Leader,
Marc Lester
