About this event

Heroku is a cloud platform aimed at developers, making application deployment a natural and easy process using Git.

The Heroku platform can run any language and framework (not restricted by license) and is also elastically scalable with a large number of service and product addons that speed up application development and deployment.

At the workshop you will learn how to start using Heroku for your deployments. We will cover deployment from git, language support & build packs, using github for collaboration and a few common add-ons.

The workshop will be hands-on, so bring a laptop or pair with someone.

Schedule
6pm - Find the Salesforce office on the 27th floor
6.30pm - Quick overview of Heroku
6.45pm - Practical session - deploying and basic management of your app on Heroku

Before the event

To deploy your application to Heroku, you will need an Heroku account and have installed the Heroku toolbelt. This is simple and can be done before the event, although we will briefly check everyone is setup before we start the event proper.

If you are new to using the Git version control system, get a free Github account and take the 15 minute github tutorial at  http://try.github.com/

You should also make sure you have a development environment you are comfortably working with for the language you chose to write your application in.  Directly supported languages include: Java, Scala, Clojure, Ruby, Python, Node.js

We will quickly cover build packs in case you would like to use a language other than the above.

Important: Access details

Please ensure your full name is used when registering as this is needed by building security to let you in.

Finding the office in Tower42

As you enter Tower42, take the escalators to the building reception.  Upon giving your name you will receive a visitor pass for the building.

Go to the far right and go through building security, your bag will be scanned and you pass through a metal detector.

Once through security, take the escalators immediately to your left - following the blue path.  Walk all the way round to lifts and take the lift to the 24th floor.

At the 24th floor, get out of the lift and cross the hallway.  Take the blue lifts to the 27th floor.  Exiting the lift to your left you will find the Salesforce office.

Thank you
