Join us for our November meetup where Emily Hinck from Cloud for Good will be presenting her WITness Success session to our group. "Communicating with Grit & Grace" is all about applying emotional intelligence and a strengths based mindset to tackle tough conversations.

As women, we are natural communicators. However, there are pitfalls that many of us fall into that limit our ability to communicate effectively. Tapping into emotional intelligence (EI), we can better perceive, assess, and manage our own emotions. This ability results in a communication style that is calm and rational under pressure, flexible and adaptable to changing demands and deadlines, and allows us to perceive, assess, and appeal to the emotions of others. We can use this emotional information to guide our behavior and therefore achieve goals. 

Integrating emotional intelligence with a strengths based mindset will take communication abilities to the next level. Using EI skills to assess, understand, and capitalize on our strengths and the strengths of those we work with or are trying to influence provides a route for action. If we understand, acknowledge, and build on our and other’s strengths, we avoid communication that is deflating and negative. We put people in the right seat on the bus, provide autonomy, and encourage teamwork. In order to identify and capitalize on our strengths and the strengths of others, we need to be flexible as well as strategic. 

We will dive into the nuts and bolts of emotional intelligence and strengths based approach and provide key ways to integrate these practices into various communication scenarios. You will leave with an understanding of EI and strengths based principles and checklists for applying these principles in specific scenarios.
