About this event

• What we'll do
Hello fellow Salesforce Developers! On Tuesday January 23rd WMP will be hosting a Heroku Workshop, so get ready to get your hands dirty with Heroku! Heroku is a cloud platform that lets companies build, deliver, monitor and scale apps — it's the fastest way to go from idea to URL, bypassing all those infrastructure headaches. There is some required prep to get the most out of this session, posted below. We will be doing a Heroku introduction in a workshop format, get ready to code! Bobby will also be doing a recap of his Tahoe Dreamin' presentation. To get the most out of the workshop you should be working along with us. _**Before you arrive, please insure that you have already completed the following setup.**_

1) Accounts

a) Salesforce Account

You probably have a Salesforce developer account already, but if not create one now: https://events.developerforce.com/signup.

B) Heroku Account

You will of course need a Heroku account. If you don’t have one already, head over to Heroku (https://id.heroku.com/signup) and create one. We will be adding you into a training environment.

C) Github account

You will want to set up a github account, if you do not already have one: _https://github.com_ (https://github.com/) and sign up.

2) Set up your local environment

There are some local tools that you will need to use in the course of this class, and in the course of day to day use of Heroku

A) The command line tools

Install the Heroku Command Line Tools.Following the instructions here for your local enviroment (https://toolbelt.heroku.com/).

B) Log in to Heroku

You will want to log your local machine into Heroku.

heroku auth:login

You can check if you are already logged in using

heroku auth:whoami

C) Git

We’ll need Git to handle source control and facilitate pushing code to Heroku. You can find installer packages for any platform here (https://git-scm.com/downloads) or:

On Linux, use apt or yum: sudo apt-get install git

sudo yum install git

On OS X check to see if it’s installed - modern versions of OS X have it installed. Just open a command prompt and issue the git command.

If it’s not installed, you will want to use Homebrew (http://brew.sh): brew install git

If Homebrew is not installed, you’ll want to install it following the directions on it’s website: http://brew.sh.

On Windows, download the installer (_http://git-scm.com/downloads_ (http://git-scm.com/downloads))
