Food distribution is a great chance for us to volunteer and help build a resilient local community! This is an outdoor Farmers Market-style distribution run by Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. Activities may include setting up tables and displaying food; unloading and moving food from pallets; sorting produce; bagging frozen meat items; greeting and checking in clients; assisting clients with their selections; and cleaning up the site and handling recyclables and compost. (This is a hands-on volunteer activity where some jobs require repeated bending, carrying, and lifting of up to 25 pounds or more.)
We will have the opportunity to work with people of different backgrounds and nationalities with compassion and sensitivity, ensuring clients have healthy food. Bilingual volunteers are especially welcome!
