Building software that works for a handful of users is one challenge. Building software that continues to perform under heavy demand, unexpected traffic spikes, and rapid growth is an entirely different one. This is where system design comes in.
System design focuses on how different parts of a software system are structured and how they work together to maintain performance, reliability, and scalability as usage grows. It requires engineers to think beyond writing code and instead consider architecture, trade-offs, and long-term sustainability of a system.
In this session, participants will be introduced to the engineering mindset used to approach large-scale software problems. The discussion will focus on how systems evolve as applications grow from small projects into widely used platforms, and why architectural decisions play a crucial role in that journey.
The session aims to help attendees begin thinking like system designers—understanding how engineers evaluate problems, anticipate bottlenecks, and design systems capable of supporting real-world demand.
Ideal for students and early-career professionals, this talk provides a starting point for exploring an important area of modern software engineering that is increasingly relevant in both industry practice and technical interviews.
