Let's get together for dinner and to hear from Shirley Tricker, Master's Student & Career Coach!
Our careers today look very different to those of past generations and it’s not always clear what skills are needed to manage these unconventional career journeys.
What can you expect from a modern career? What skills will help you navigate career twists and turns? Come learn practical tips and tools for your career journey.
This content is based on Shirley's 25 years of working in tech. Shirley has repeatedly seen that people don't know what skills they could use to take care of their own career growth. In the "old" days people could rely on their employers to provide opportunities, training, and development. Now, even if someone has an amazing employer who looks after them, there are things they can do to expand their opportunities, increase their happiness at work, and to navigate the many turns their career path will take.
Shirley will share practical ways for people to have clarity about their value at work, to grow skills that employers really want, to be able to adapt to changing work contexts, and to expand their options. This content comes from her own experience of learning how to self-manage her career, from helping others to do so, and from research in her Master's programme. The talk would be useful for anyone wants something more or something different at work (new role, to be seen as a leader, more meaningful work, financial need, etc), and they may not be sure how to get it.
All are welcome. Please RSVP to the event to get added to the catering count. All food will be plant-based with gluten-free options.
Please update your RSVP or contact Alisa (below) if you know you can't attend after RSVPing.
